V. Key considerations

Two years of repatriation service:

  • population (esp. of a group of people): Government-funded/vacant specialty/physician training participants
  • Conditions for exemption:: Letter of no objection from home country; application for political asylum; application for waiver by U.S. agency (requires proof of extreme hardship)

working privilege::

  • J-1 principal applicants may only engage in Sponsor-approved activities
  • J-2 spouses can apply for an EAD to work legally

Professional Advice:

  • Project Selection: Physician training requires 3 years of advance preparation for USMLE exams
  • time planning: Summer Camp Counselor Program requires applications to be completed by April of each year
  • Material Preparation: Letters of recommendation should detail the relevance of the program to the applicant's career development
